General Grievous stood at the front view screen on his newly repaired flag ship. He had fled Kashyyk when the shields fell during the Republic's assault, and as a result their forces had been crushed. The General was the best tactician the CIS had, and if he died then the war would be over, not something Lord Sidious wanted. Now he was returning, he had seen the Republics forces, and had brought with him enough ships and a plan that would wipe them out, and doom the forces trapped on the planet.
The ships came out of Hyperspace in perfect formation, at the edge of the Kashyyk system. The view screen zoomed in to show the Republic forces in orbit, most of the fighters had returned to the hangers, they were not expecting a fight. The General turned to a Holo Display, which currently showed the Neimoidian commanders of the other ships. "Are all fighters ready to launch?" He asked them, his glare penetrating deep beneath the skin of his subordinates, warning them of the cost of a wrong response. "Yes General." They replied, in perfect unison. "Good," he replied, "Have them launch as soon as you come out of Hyperspace. You have your coordinates, and stick to the plan at all costs. Jump on my mark. Group one, Mark." He waited a few seconds, then said, "Group two, Mark." his cybernetic implants giving him the exact timing for each group to jump, so that the fleet would arrive simultaneously, surrounding the planet. "Group three, Mark. Group four, Mark."
With the last mark, he felt the ship enter Hyperspace, make a short jump, and enter real space blocking off the Republics escape route. "All fighters, launch." He said, looking out over the battle. The Republic had been taken by surprise, the few fighters that had been flying patrols weren't prepared for the assault, and were quickly taken down, and the cruisers were being pounded by the turbo lasers, aiming for the hanger entrances. General Grievous chuckled to himself slightly, then broke into one of his coughing fits. It didn't last long, but they were annoying. When he had regained control, he turned back to the Holo Display, and keyed in Lord Sidious' private comm link. The familiar hooded figure appeared on screen, and he announced "The battle is going according to plan, my lord. All the ships are in place, and we have taken them by surprise. I will report again when the battle is over."
The bombers were concentrating all there fire on the more heavily defended ships, as the republic were bound to be protecting the capital ships, and the turbo lasers had turned their attention to the frigate defenses. The Republic, having finally managed to launch some fighters, were starting to fight back, but they had taken too many losses already. The tri-fighters were taking down the fighters almost as fast as they were launching, and there was no way the Republic would be able to last much longer. The General looked down at the main display, and saw that one of his cruisers had been heavily damaged. "All Droid fighters break off and protect Cruiser 2-1. Tri's are to assault bombers making attack runs." He ordered, as the Neimoidian controlling his fighters sent out the override code. The General looked back out towards the battle, but it was too late. One of the Republic ships fired another turbo-laser battery at the cruiser, and it was ripped apart, spewing droids out everywhere.
Thankfully, the Republic had not yet seen Group one, 4 cruisers and 8 frigates on the far side of the planet. "Have Cruiser 1-1 move round to fill the gap, and have group two tighten formation to stop the Republic ships escaping." He ordered, the gap in the defense wasn't really big enough to get the republic cruisers through, but the frigates had plenty of room to escape, and the Republics commander could well be desperate enough to try anything by now. The General wanted some of them to escape, how else would the galaxy learn of the Separatist's crushing victory, if no clones lived to report it. The plan had paid off, as the combined fire of 12 cruisers tore through the last frigate, the General allowed himself to cheer inside. The battle was almost won, and they had suffered very few losses. Many fighters had been lost, but only one capital ship. The bridge of one of the Republic cruisers exploded, and the General checked the tactical display, to see several squadrons of bombers peeling off from attack runs, and targeting the nearest cruiser in the enemy's formation. The cruisers turned their turbo-lasers on to the nearest cruiser to the Generals flag ship, and opened fire.
20 minutes later, The Republic had only two cruisers remaining, both of which had been crippled. "I am sending over a boarding party, several shuttles will be sent to each ship," The General announced over the comms, to a very distraught officer, "all surviving crew members will be returned to the Republic, all warriors will be killed, and all Jedi will be arrested, and dealt with by me personally. If you value your lives, you will not hinder us, or attempt to hide any Jedi among your crew." He then cut off the comm, and nodded at the Neimoidian controlling the droids, signaling for him to send the droids across. This was a good victory, and they were one step closer to Lord Sidious' victory.
